 | Mylar Archives (4 mil thick rigid Mylar comic bags)
The original and the best archival storage product for your valuable collectables, imported from the US. Archives (formerly known as 'Snugs') are made from 4 mil thick Mylar DŽ, a specially produced polyester film, as opposed to plastic out of which poly-bags are produced. Mylar is universally recommended for long term storage of paper products because of the quality and chemical stability of the material. Besides its strength, it is resistant to moisture, mildew and mold and will not yellow over time, like poly-bags. These bags are rigid, with a glass like finish and a rounded die cut top (unlike cheaper alternatives which are generally thinner and maybe cut square across the top).
When sizing, allow 1/2" clearance for the thickness of the comic (ie 7 1/4" archives are suitable for regular comics up to 6 3/4" wide - thicker issues will require more clearance).
Please note: If you are intending to store your Mylar protected comics in boxes, whilst mylar archives will fit our comic boxes, they are slightly too tall, and so the top flaps will extend a few mm beyond the top of the box. It is still possible to put the lid on, and store the boxes on shelving, but we would not recommend that you stack the boxes as this would crush the mylars. For this reason we would recommend you use our magazine size boxes to hold 4 mil mylars, as these will take the full height of the archive bags, although the box itself will be a fair bit wider than the bags themselves.
Mylites2 feature folding flaps (like regular comic bags), so the comic size will fit our comic boxes.
(note: MegaCity only stock original US Mylars from E Gerber, which are a full 4mil (100 microns) thick and feature a die-cut top, for easy loading. By comparsion, 'Collectorline' mylars, which are stocked by many of our competitors are only 75 microns thick, and feature a simply square cut top).
